CALELLA
Calella, the tourist capital of the Maresme coast, is well-known as being a cosmopolitan and fun town, and enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate. Well located, 50 km from both Barcelona and Girona, excellent road/rail connections and the possibilities of a varied excursion/leisure activity programme make it the ideal holiday destination.
The town is well-laid out, comprising a large pedestrian shopping area, ample parks and squares, backed up by an impressive 14,000 bed accommodation package in either hotels, apartments or campings making Calella one of the most important tourist destinations in the country.
About three kilometers of beaches and more than 180.000 m2 of golden, clean sand, intense blue waters, nature areas such as the Dalmau park, the avenues of Manuel Puigvert, Garbí and Les Torretes make Calella a dynamic, modern and welcoming town enabling visitors to enjoy those perfect holidays.
Calella accommodates annually some 250.000 tourists who come from all over Europe, the vast majority being Britons and Germans.
A few years ago an ambitious project was started, to convert Calella in a leader of combining popular and traditional culture with its Mediterranean and Catalan roots, to integrate the elements of all who reside there, regardless of their nationality but who feel deeply identified with Calella.
Calella is a town with more than 650 years of history. It has always been a town open to the sea and mountains, jealous of its past, rich in deeds and always aware of its Catalan roots. It has developed though the passage of time into a community which welcomes newcomers from a multitude of countries with their different, rich and rewarding cultures.
